This MeetUp is for anyone with a four-wheel drive vehicle (or willing to ride in one) who would like to have fun exploring a scenic high-alpine off-road trail together in the beautiful Colorado mountains.
Exact location TBD (depending on the skill level and vehicle capabilities of those who sign up), but the tentative plan is to run a moderate difficulty high alpine loop trail like the Deer Creek and Saints John loop above Montezuma, near Keystone. No prior off-roading experience is necessary, but only those with true 4WD vehicles with low-range should drive (no Subarus). The trail we’re currently considering is rated moderate, and anyone with a 4WD Jeep, truck, or SUV should be able to complete it, though lower clearance vehicles may scrape bottom on rocks in a few places. Depending on exactly who signs up and the capabilities of their vehicle, we might select a harder or easier trail to run. If you don’t have a 4WD but would like to experience off-roading, you are welcome to ride along as a passenger. Plan for the trip to take most of the day, and bring a lunch to eat on the trail.
