What is Child Dedication?
Child Dedication is an opportunity for Christian parents to publicly dedicate their child to the Lord for his purposes and express their commitment to raising them in the way of Jesus with the heart of Jesus. It is a declaration of intent and a promise, with God’s help, to create a Christ-centered home where faith grows as it is lived and practiced every day.
At South Fellowship, we believe baptism is a personal decision to follow Jesus. Child dedication is different. It is a commitment made by parents. In this moment, families entrust their child to God’s purposes and invite their church community to walk alongside them in prayer and support. A biblical example of this is found in the life of Hannah and her son Samuel. “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord.” (1 Samuel 1:27-28).
THE MEANING OF CHILD DEDICATION
What Child Dedication Symbolizes
A public commitmentChild Dedication is a public proclamation declaring your intent, with God’s help, to raise your child in a Christ-centered home. It marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of modeling faith, practicing love, and intentionally pointing your child toward Jesus.
An act of trustIn dedication, parents acknowledge that their child ultimately belongs to the Lord. It is an act of surrender and gratitude, trusting God with your child’s life and future while faithfully stewarding the years you are given.
A partnership with your church familyWhen you dedicate your child at South, our church community bears witness to your commitment and joins you in prayer and support. We desire to create environments that feel like coming home, spaces where your child can encounter Jesus and take next steps in faith as they grow.
