All Carolyn’s Devotionals (123)
The first devotionals I ever wrote were in 2008, for a Lenten booklet called, “FACES on the way to the CROSS”. which was made available on Ash Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Easter Sunday that year was March 23, 2008, almost the earliest it can ever be.
Twenty-two members of South Fellowship wrote one or more devotionals for the booklet. I wrote three. We all wrote independently as we were from a lot of different locations and didn’t have the online technology available to meet as a team.
My husband, Phil, and Dan Elliott worked together on editing each of the devotionals before sending them to the printer. It is a very special memory for me as Phil died on April 2, ten days after Easter.
Checking on south fellowship.org where all of the published devotionals are available by author I found that the second time I wrote was for Advent 2014. I had forgotten that as, again I was asked to write a couple of them.
I was invited to join the DEVO team October, 2021 and have greatly enjoyed meeting either on site or through Zoom ever since. I really like working as a team. Besides encouraging each other, we have a lot of fun together. We have to make sure the conference room door is closed when we meet , because we sometimes get so noisy that we become a disturbance for some staff who are in the offices close to us.
I have taken correspondence courses in writing for children, teenagers and adults in the past. That was in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I typed my assignments on a regular typewriter, made copies using carbon paper and mailed them in to my assigned instructor. Research on anything required a trip to the library.
I also like writing with pen and ink and have an assortment of fountain and dip pens, including a glass dip pen. I am a journal junky and prefer non-spiral lined journals that lay flat. I love color and regularly change the colors I’m using to write in my journals. For portability, I like very fine point gel pens.
Technology has made a huge difference in how I research and write. Lots to learn on a constant basis. Even on the use of my old fashioned, typewriter style keyboard that is connected to my IMac.
I am going to miss meeting and growing in our faith together as a Devo team. Each person who currently is, or has in the past, been part of the team has blessed and encouraged my growth in the Holy Trinity. I am going to miss reading each of our devotionals before they get published and imagining how they will bless those who will read them.
Thank you all who have read and encouraged us by your comments and your appreciation of what the Lord has given each of us to write and share with you. As a prayer for our combined growth in our Lord, I am going to “paraphrase” one of my favorite hymns: Be “Thou My Vision “
Be Thou our vision, O Lord of our hearts.
Naught be all else to us save that Thou art
Thou our best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy Presence our Light!
