God is everywhere. This truth is taught in scripture and theologians call it omnipresence. Even though God is everywhere, he can and does reveal himself in special ways at specific times. This is what we call God’s manifest presence. This song is a simple prayer for God to manifest himself to us.
We have played this song a few times in a context where we were talking about the Holy Spirit. I was shocked at how many of our members came up to me expressing how much they liked the song. There are several different reasons why I pick specific songs to sing corporately. I usually tend to lean toward lyrically rich songs. This song is quite simple lyrically but what it lacks in lyrical quantity it makes up for is musical and spiritual power.
My prayer is that this song would be one that we use as a church to remind ourselves that God is alive, His spirit is among us, and we need and long to see Him work among us.
Lyrics
Verse 1:
There’s nothing worth more that could ever come close,
No thing can compare, You’re our living Hope,
Your presence, Lord.
Verse 2:
I’ve tasted and seen of the sweetest of loves,
When my heart becomes free and my shame is undone,
Your presence, Lord.
Chorus:
Holy Spirit You are welcome here,
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere.
Your glory God is what our hearts long for,
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord.
Bridge:
Let us become more aware of Your presence.
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness.
