The passage that I have the opportunity to teach on tomorrow (Romans 12:1-2) has been one of the most important passages to me in developing a practical theology for growing in Christ. For so long I had a misunderstanding about what it looked like to mature as a believer – and how I could actually practically go about growing in my walk with Christ. I oscillated between apathy and legalism for most of the first 2 decades of my life. Romans 12:1-2 has been a game-changer for me!

Timothy Keller has been one of the people who has most profoundly shaped my thinking in regards to the gospel. Below is a chart that he compiled comparing religion to the gospel – some of the things on this list have brought immense freedom and joy to my life. If you go to South, I’d encourage you to read over this list before tomorrow. I won’t refer to it directly, but many of these ideas have profoundly shaped my thinking about the gospel, sanctification, and the Christian life – and they have huge implication for Romans 12:1-2.

I hope these grip your heart and evoke joy in you as you sit in the true gospel.
