The Elders of South Fellowship Church invite you to celebrate with them the ordination of our pastor, Ryan Paulson, to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please join us on Sunday, April 29th, at 4:30 PM, for Pastor Ryan’s Service of Ordination followed by a meal for all guests. We request that you RSVP here by April 25th so that we can plan for dinner. We hope you can join us!

Pastor Ryan has been at South for almost 6 years. The church he served at before South was also non-denominational and he wasn’t ordained through them. Different denominations approach ordination in different ways. For example, a presbyterian church would ordain a pastor before calling him/her to serve as their pastor. It would serve as part of their vetting process and a ‘first order of business.’ Other denominations, like Evangelical Free Church (EFCA) or Anabaptists, would first license the pastor and then ordain them after they had proven themselves in ministry over a couple of years.

South Fellowship is a non-denominational church and our by-laws don’t outline any clear policy or pathway concerning ordination – other than the elders are in charge of that aspect of the church. In this case, we are following more of an EFCA methodology. Pastor Ryan has been licensed for ministry for the past 15 years and he does want to be ordained.

A definition of ordination is that “Ordination is the act of publicly setting a person apart for Christian ministry by prayer and the laying on of hands by others in ministry and the leadership of the local church; thus recognizing God’s call upon his life; his gifts and training for ministry; his commitment to teach and preach the sacred Scriptures.” To read more about this and ordination please read the ECFA policy for ordination. This policy most closely aligns with our process.

If you have any other questions about Pastor Ryan’s ordination, we would love to answer them.  Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]
