Song by Charity Gayle ‧ 2021
In Exodus 3:5 Moses was instructed to stop where he was standing and to not come any closer and to remove his shoes because he was on “Holy Ground” – he was so close to God’s presence.
This song begins with the declaration that Jesus is with us (Immanuel) in this space, transforming our surroundings with holiness:
Jesus is in this room
Here right now, here right now
Making this place I stand
Holy ground, holy ground
And so we approach the throne through His work in death and resurrection. However, thrones are rarely easy to access. A throne room is an impressive setting for a monarch to preside ‘in majesty’ over official ceremonies, to hold council, to grant audiences, to receive homage, to award high honors and offices, and to perform other official functions. (Wikipedia)
Access to that throne room is limited and carefully screened for status and security.
In Matthew 27:50-51 Jesus gives up his spirit in death and the veil of separation is torn from top to bottom.
And so we sing… as the bridge of this song repeats…
The veil is torn and the doors fling wide
I see glory as I run inside
The throne room, before You, I bow, I bow
What a beautiful scene this song depicts. What will it be like to see Glory – Glory that is so incredible we fall to our knees? Let’s look at some verses throughout scripture that remind us of why this throne room IS so special.
Lamentations 5:19
You, Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures from generation to generation.
This line – embedded in lament — is a reminder that our Creator, Savior, and King endures and can be trusted – for us to follow, serve, and worship with confidence.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
This is a place of mercy and grace – not prestige and punishment. Jesus is close to us always, but especially in our times of need. He is drawing us to His perfect way that is the best way for us to live. We don’t just have access to a throne room, we have access to HIM. Now.
Revelation 5:13
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
This is a group endeavor. As intimate as it can feel to draw close to Him, we are in a “multitude” and an “every-ness”. This collective is in agreement with the recipient of glory and praise – we will hear unity at last!
Amen!
Jesus is in this room
Here right now, here right now
Making this place I stand
Holy ground, holy ground
Your Spirit moves and breathes
All around, all around
All good and perfect things
Flowing down, flowing down
If all of the heavens are singing along
With the saints and the elders in glorious song
And the praises they sing never seem to get old
Then I’ll stay here forever singing
Holy, holy, holy Lord
God Almighty, over all
You were, You are, and You’ll be forever
The King, enthroned, in glorious splendor
Holy, holy Lord
Gentle love calling me
Closer still, closer still
Jesus, You’re guiding me
To Your will, to Your will
The veil is torn and the doors fling wide
I see glory as I run inside
The throne room, before You, I bow, I bow
